Prayer

Sunday night at Youth I spoke with my students about prayer.  I took a different way in doing my lesson, by it being more of a town hall meeting setting.  I did an introduction to the subject, then I allowed the students to ask questions and share thoughts on prayer.  Instead of me fielding the questions I allowed their fellow peers, then my adult leaders answer, before I closed out the question/comment.  It was really amazing to see and hear my students learn from each other.

At first I was skeptical and unsure how they would react.  I was also afraid that they wouldn’t share and it would be adult lead.  I was also fearful of one or two students running it.  But none of that happened.  And the cool part was that we went over by 15 minutes and none of the students were looking at their phones or watches to see if it was time to go.

One of the coolest moments was one of our students who has come only a few times spoke to me after youth and shared what he got out of the lesson.  He told me how he had been struggling on how to pray for the past couple weeks.  It is always amazing to see God work in the lives of students.  But even more amazing to see it happen through other students.  This is what ministry really is.  It is not about a youth worker working in the lives of students, but other students working in the lives of their friends!
